Summary of the book:
A young woman marries her adolescent love. One winter night she leaves him and only takes her diaries with her. That woman is me. That night is now. Everything before and after is a story.
Drift is a plain story about someone who walks away from home because she’s walked away for years from herself. About how overwhelming a first love is. And how every love story eventually revolves around deception.
The reason I read this book, was because I had to read another book for my Dutch class. I asked my teacher which book she’d recommend and she came with this book. So I read it.
Let me say, this story didn’t go at all how I thought it would go. It’s kind of a romance novel, but it wasn’t really. The ending was definitely not something from a romance novel. The ending still bugs me. Yes, the main (female) character should be happy and do what she needs to do to take care of herself, but what can I say? I’m a sucker for happy endings.
Her boyfriend/husband really annoyed me. I felt like all he did was making everything about him and basically not giving a sh*t about his wife. Whenever she was writing in her diary, he just got jealous. I admit, maybe she shouldn’t write in her diary in front of her husband, but he shouldn’t act like that either.
